K is for Kindness
One of my favourite quotes is from the Dalai Lama:
"Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible."
So, let's practice random acts of kindness.
Here are a few ideas to get you started:
Let someone in front of you in traffic
Smile at strangers
Hold the door open for people
Help your neighbours: shovel snow, carry their groceries, bring in their trash cans or babysit
Offer your seat on the bus
Leave a few quarters at the laundromat or in a vending machine
Pick up trash
Share your umbrella
Buy a coworker a coffee

Honestly (and I know that this makes me sound simple), I believe that kindness is the answer to all of the world's ills. No wars, no crime, no hunger, no unmet needs.
ReplyDeleteWould be wonderful!
DeleteThe song may say that love makes the world go 'round, and while I'm a huge proponent of love, it isn't always kind. So, maybe it should be kindness makes the world go 'round? Nothing more than the manifestation of the Golden Rule. Works for me!
ReplyDeleteMaybe kindness is a special kind of love?
DeleteWhenever I try to practice truly random acts of kindness (e.g. offering my sandwich to a businessman in the park, giving a foot massage to a grocery store cashier) all I get are strange looks and/or restraining orders. From now on, I think I'll try to focus more on the kindness and less on the random.
ReplyDeleteNate - you always make me lol - thank you :)
DeleteI love your way of thinking. If more people practiced daily kindness the world would be a much better place.
ReplyDeleteI like to imagine I'll live to see it become our reality.
DeleteI've seen a few A to Z posts on kindness today. I like the thinking here, because kindness is contagious.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to hear it's a popular topic.
DeleteI also posted today on "kindness." That so many people are talking about kindness may be a sign that it is in short supply these days.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe it's a sign we have lots of kindness to share?
