Me & My Motorcycle

M is for Motorcycle

My 2011 A-Z post for the letter "M"  was  about my motorcycle.  Sorry folks, I'm doing it again this year - but this time I'm not even going to try to tie it into by blog theme.   It's a non-sequitur all the way.

Last April I had put down a deposit on a Honda 250 and it was delivered in early June.  Here's me and my new motorcycle on delivery day.

Hubby and I headed out on our first motorcycle road trip in 20 years.  We packed up the bikes

and headed to Calabogie in northern Ontario so hubby could get some track time.

We spent the next few days riding around Calabogie enjoying the scenery

We had such a good time on those roads we're going back again this year.

Can't wait!

  2. Hello fellow challenger! I never got around to creating a theme, myself, and kind of enjoying the eclectic writing life. I still have several hundred to go before I reached you in the list, but I couldn't pass up the motorcycle thing. I've always wanted one, but not sure I really have the courage to ride one. You guys look like you're having a wonderful time. Please continue to do so and stop by when you can.

    1. Ya, it can be dangerous and it's not for everyone. Riding does keep you on your toes. A Japanese study showed that motorcyclists brains are 10 years younger than non-riders.

  5. Now in a car, 77 miles on winding roads would have me reaching for the Jolly Ranchers (for some reason, the sourness seems to help my motion sickness). When I've been on a bike though (only as a passenger, alas!) I have never once gotten motion sick.

Looks like a grand adventure. congratulations on your new "baby."

    1. Hmm, that's interesting about the motion sickness... maybe because you're not enclosed?

  6. My grandson has just bought his first motorbike and wanted to take me for a ride, but I chickened out!

    1. I too would decline if a brand new rider offered me a ride. Taking a passenger is very different from riding alone and you need some experience before trying it. I hope he's taken a training course, is riding safely and having the time of his life!

  7. I would love to have a motorcycle, except my wife would have a fit and probably divorce me (well, not really, about the divorce). But big bikes are terribly expensive.

    Happy trails!

    1. You are so right about the $$$, which is why I purchased a small, less expensive 250.

  8. My hubby and I became snowmobile enthusiasts. Joined a club and participated in the Alberta provincial association. I was a Safety Director. We travelled extensivey throughout Alberta, BC, Idaho, Washington, Montana, etc. with our machines. For 25 years we enjoyed scenery that was breathtaking. One year we packed up our sleds and gear and headed to the snowmobile jamboree in Fort McMurray. Lo and behold, I had forgotten to pack my husband's snowmobile suit. Man, I wasn't too popular that trip. Fortunately, a local fellow loaned my hubby his suit. Feather

    1. That sounds wonderful (except for the forgotten suit). I didn't know there was such a thing as a snowmobile jamboree. I used to ride snowmobiles when I was a kid - your comment brought back some good memories. Thanks!

  9. How very cool, Laurie! This looks like such fun.

Your post made me realize that the last time I was on a motorcycle was close to a hundred years ago when I was still in high school. Loved it then--but think I might be a bit of a chicken to try it now. LOL I admire you for doing it! :D

    1. I was in my 20's when I learned to ride. I was young, felt invincible and was never afraid. I didn't ride for 20 years and when I got back in the saddle was surprised how those intervening years changed my perspective. But it didn't take long and I was right back in the swing of it. Motorcycles aren't for everyone - I'm really glad they're for me :)

  10. Congratulations on your new Honda 250, Laurie. It shines beautifully just like you in the picture. :) Having a road trip with your husband after a long while is a milestone to keep. It would be better if you and your hubby cruise through the city lights while riding on your bikes - that would be so romantic.

    1. Especially if the city lights were in Paris and we cruised up the Champs Eleysees and had our picture taken at the arc de Triumpe - now we're talkin' romance! :)

  11. I feel the same way as Jessie. City lights in Paris! That would be so romantic to see, Laurie. I hope you have a picture with your hair blowing in the wind. :P Congratulations, by the way. :) Two years ago, the 2011 Honda CBR250R was a direct challenge against Kawasaki’s genre-defining Ninja 250R, but I believe it would still depend on the buyer, because each of us bikers, have our own taste.

    1. Both are great bikes. We went with the Honda for the fuel injection and ABS.

  12. It’s good to know that you as couples share the same sport or hobby! It’ll definitely help strengthen your bond. I’m looking forward to our first motorcycle road trip too. Stay safe always!

  13. Aww. It’s always heartwarming to see a lovely couple share the same interests. =) That motorcycle road trip seems to be really fun. Being able to ride a bike together is a very romantic thing to do, and I think, having to do it often is perfect for you both and for every couple out there, as it can effectively take away all the stress and pressure that you guys have been carrying around.

    1. Yes, it's awesome sharing a hobby. We ride for hours together, then when we take a break we talk about the ride, the fun corners and the nice scenery. When I'm riding I'm totally focused and the rest of the world melts away - no room for stress or distractions. It's like therapy! :)

  14. Looks like you and your husband have the same interest, which is motorcycling. It’s pretty rare for a couple to have the same interest in motorcycles. And I think that’s pretty cool! You both have your own bikes to ride in your trip. So do you race against each other when you’re biking together?

  15. No racing on the streets for us!! Hubby goes to the track to go fast but I'm happy with street speeds.
We've run into lots of couples on bikes over the years but your right, not many of them are each on their own ride.
